Adding to evidence that men with early prostate cancer can safely put off surgery, a new study finds that patients who delayed surgery by over a year had similar outcomes as those who opted for immediate treatment.

Prostate cancer is a significant public health concern and cause of morbidity among American men. It is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in the United States (excluding skin cancers) and is second only to lung cancer as a contributor to cancer deaths in American men.

"September is Prostate Cancer Awareness Month and registration for the free annual prostate screening offered by the Tallahassee Memorial Cancer Center and Southeastern Urological Center is open. Capital Regional Cancer Center is also offering free screenings."
